There simply cannot be a summer party without a flower crown! Flower crowns have existed for centuries, but in recent years they have become a very popular craft for celebrations such as midsummer parties, birthdays, bridesmaids’ parties, or even weddings.

Making a flower crown is a wonderful activity for both kids and adults. It brings so much joy, creativity, and fun. Plus, you can create beautiful summer photos and lasting memories with your handmade crown. It is also one of my absolute favourite crafts whenever there is a celebration coming up.

In this post, I will explain step by step how you can make your own flower crown.

Before you begin, here are a few helpful tips:

• The bigger the flowers, the heavier your crown will be.
• If you want an elegant and natural look, choose flowers in similar or soft colours.
• If you want a vibrant and playful crown, go for colourful flowers.
• When making your small flower bouquets, try to keep them similar in size so that your crown looks even and balanced.
• You can always cut off extra stems, but if the bouquets are too small, it’s harder to fix later.

Step 1: Prepare the Wire Base

Cut a piece of florist wire about 50 cm long. Wrap florist tape around the entire wire. This helps the flowers grip better and makes the crown more stable.

Then bend both ends of the wire into small loops. These loops will later hold the ribbon so you can adjust the crown to fit your head.

Step 2: Make Small Flower Bouquets

Cut your flowers and arrange them into small bouquets. You will need approximately 18–20 small bouquets, depending on how thick they are.

• Thicker bouquets will give you a fuller, more dramatic crown.
• Smaller, delicate bouquets will create a lighter, more filigree-style crown.

Step 3: Attach the Flowers and Add the Ribbon

Start placing the small bouquets from one side of the wire base. Make sure the flower blooms face toward the loop at the end of the wire.

Secure each bouquet with florist tape and continue placing the next bouquet slightly over the previous one. This overlapping technique creates a full and natural look. Keep working your way along the wire until you reach the other end of the crown.

Once all flowers are attached, thread a ribbon through the loops at each end of the wire. This ribbon allows you to adjust the crown to fit your head comfortably.

And that’s it! Your handmade flower crown is now ready to wear and celebrate with.
