In this post, I’ll show you how to create a colourful and vibrant dried flower bouquet. Dried flowers are often associated with soft, natural, and neutral tones, but they can be just as bright and colourful when you choose the right flowers and foliage. With the right materials, you can create a dried flower arrangement that is full of colour and texture. From a distance, some dried flower bouquets can even resemble fresh flowers.
One of the best flowers for drying is statice, which is my personal favourite. It comes in a beautiful range of colours and, best of all, it keeps its vibrant colour exceptionally well after drying. Other excellent flowers for dried bouquets include lavender and achillea, but there are many more to discover.
If you have a garden, I highly recommend experimenting with different flowers and greenery to see which varieties dry well. You might be surprised by how many plants can be preserved beautifully. Another great way to build your dried flower collection is to dry flowers from fresh bouquets you’ve received as gifts or bought for yourself. Many fresh flowers dry wonderfully and can be given a second life in a long-lasting arrangement.
For this bouquet, I’m using bright pink statice as the focal flower, together with a mix of dried greenery and other flowers. Some of the materials come from my own garden, while others are shop-bought, proving that you can easily combine homegrown and purchased flowers in one arrangement.
To assemble the bouquet, use the spiral technique, adding one stem at a time while gently turning the bouquet in your hand. This creates a balanced, professional-looking shape.
Once I was happy with the arrangement, I added a few soft, light pink fluffy stems to bring extra texture and movement. These can simply be tucked into the finished bouquet wherever you feel they are needed.
When your bouquet is complete, tie the stems securely with twine or floral tape and trim the ends so they are straight. The final stem length will depend on the height of the vase you plan to use.
Dried flowers don’t have to look dull or colourless. With the right combination of flowers, they can be bright, cheerful, and full of personality while lasting for months with very little maintenance.
A colourful dried flower bouquet is also a wonderful choice for businesses such as boutiques, hair salons, cafés, restaurants, offices, and reception areas. Unlike fresh flowers, dried arrangements require very little upkeep, making them an easy way to add warmth, colour, and a welcoming atmosphere to any space.
